Sexy Artwork, “Enders” Practice and Tacky Taglines - Z Podcast Network

Welcome to “I Hate Critics” The World’s Greatest Movie Podcast. This week in movie will go down in movie history as one of the more memorable weeks because I can’t even remember what came out. “Ender’s Game,” the old guy movie and the turkey movie. “Last Vegas” and what was it called, oh yeah “Free Birds.” In short “Ender’s Game” was surprisingly decent and “Last Vegas” and “Free Birds” were pretty bland despite a great cast in “Last Vegas” and a decent director in “Free Birds.”

Josh able from the “Film Fan Perspective” wasn’t able to join us this week.

The ‘Undisputed Classic’ is “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Despite being a big Kubrick fan I never saw is masterpiece “2001.” I’m not a big fan of abstract movies and “2001” is definitely that, but I was drawn in and it made me ask questions, it made me want to know more and it was beautiful.

In movie news Emile Hirsch has signed on to play John Belushi. We took this news bashed Shia Labeouf for no real reason. We talk about the possible “ExpendaBelles” movie with Cameron Diaz, Meryl Streep, and MIlla Jovovich. Sean insists it’s a joke. Finally we talk about the new “Star Wars” films and the rumor that Harrison Ford has signed on.

This week in 1983 we have the Chevy Chase classic “Deal of the Century.” What? You don’t remember this movie? Ok.

Check out our trailers this week: “Catching Fire,” “Xmen: Days of Futures Past,” “47 Ronin,” “Beyond Outrage,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Open Grave,” and “Labor Day.”

Rare Stanley Kubrick Interview from 1965 - Z Podcast Network

Check out this rare interview of Stanley Kubrick from 1965. “Lolita” and “Dr. Strangelove” had been released and he was working on “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Kubrick never did interviews like this. The only reason it happened was because the Interviewer Jeremy Bernstein shared the same passion of Chess with Kubrick. He never beat Kubrick but managed to get him to talk for 76 minutes. Check it out here.

About Last Night: Merkins and Park Whores #Sharknado - Z Podcast Network

Welcome to The I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. Happy Valentines Day, did you enjoy “Robocop?” Oh you didn’t see it. Laurence Fishburne would be so disappointed in you. Let me guess, you either went to “The Lego Movie” (Bob did) or “About Last Night?” Yeah Kevin Hart’s pretty funny, I can’t say I blame you there.

Drstrangelove1sheet-

You need to listen to Sean describe “Winter’s Tale” and tell me that doesn’t sound like the most magnificent thing you’ve ever heard of. In short its “Frozen” meets “Angel Heart.” There was one other movie but I forgot what it was.

Our undisputed classic is “Dr. Strangelove,” another Stanley Kubrick classic. I’ve decided that my favorite Kubrick movie is the last one I saw. How can “2001” not be your favorite? Well check out “The Shining,” but then check out “A Clockwork Orange” or “Dr. Strangelove.” Which one is the best? Right now since I just saw it “Dr. Strangelove.” It’s 50 years old and holds up better than most comedies and is strangely still relevant today.

This week in 1984 oops we skipped this segment, we’ll make it up to you next week I promise.

Our trailers this week are:

“Nymphomaniac Volume 1”
“Under the Skin”
“Brick Mansions”
“Drive Hard”

This week “Nightcrawler” came out. Sean and Josh loved it, I hated it but for the same reasons they loved it, so at worst it’s effecting. It’s a satire on capitalism and it will piss you off. In my opinion character’s like this are more evil than serial killers and other murderers.

The other movie to come out this week was “Before I Go To Sleep.” Sean’s critic friend referred to this movie as “50 First Dates” as a thriller and it probably would have been better if Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore were in it instead of Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman.

Our Undisputed Classic is “Peeping Tom.” It’s a movie that sticks with you. I didn’t like it the first time I saw it and the more I get away from it the more I like it. Sean has it among his favorite movies of all time. You should really check this movie out.

1984 – “The Killing Fields” Josh failed the sleep test and Sean thinks it’s over rated.

Angry Artificial Intelligence & The Avengers - Z Podcast Network

Welcome to The I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. This week we talk about Harrison Ford’s plane crash, Patton Oswalt’s idea for “Unbreakable 2 & 3,” and then a teacher has been arrested in Ohio for screening “ABC’s of Death” to young teenagers. So we ask the question, when can you show your kids rated R movies?

This weeks releases include “Chappie,” “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Unfinished Business” and “Merchants of Doubt.” These movies generated a lot of hate from our film critic. Thankfully Josh saved the day by liking “Chappie.” It was one of my favorite moments on the podcast. Sean’s hate was at an all time high and Josh liked the movie and embraced his love of the movie despite Sean’s hate and it was magical…ok I’m being corny.

Chappie

“The Second Best Exotic Marigold” is gentle and pleasant. Gentle and pleasant often means lazy and pointless. “Unfinished Business” will probably go down as one of the worst movies of the year. It misses the point on so many levels. At worst “Unfinished Business” should have been another unoriginal Vince Vaughn comedy, but it was much worse than that. It’s a bummer.

Then there is a documentary about “Merchants of Doubt.” It’s about how these spin doctors that have convinced half of America that Global Warming is a hoax. It’s pretty infuriating, but the people that need to see this movie won’t.

This weeks Defend It film is “A.I. Artificial Intelligence.” Josh and Sean both agree this movie is great. I can’t dispute it but I can’t help but want to see what Kubrick would have done with it. Could you imagine if you watched every movie wondering what Kubrick’s version would be like? That’s not fair to the movie.

Best 80’s Horror Films & Tomorrowland - Z Podcast Network

“Tomorrowland” came out this week and while successful wasn’t quite the box office juggernaut I was hoping for. The movie itself has a lot of promise but just falls short. Older kids to teenagers may enjoy the movie more so than adults, but it’s an incomplete movie that’s easy to pull a part. From a Madding Crowd nearly puts the podcast to sleep.

The remake of “The Poltergeist” came out this week as well and is one of the worst remakes thus far. They more or less just took the name and put it on a low rank modern PG-13 horror film. They tried to hard to be different from the original while not being original if that makes sense. It was more or less a money grab all around.

poltergeist

We asked our audience their top five 80’s Horror films of all time. “The Thing,” “The Shining,” “The Poltergiest,” “Evil Dead 1 & 2,” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” led the way while “They Live,” “Cannibal Holocaust,” “The Gate,” “Cujo” and “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” were mentioned as well.

Our Undisputed Classic was “The Poltergeist.” All three of us really enjoyed the movie. It’s definitely a classic. We debate the PG rating and whether Tobe Hooper gets enough credit for this classic.
